We
are happy to present you Surya Magazine.
In
the next paragraphs we will try to explain:
Who
makes Surya?
What
means " Surya "?
Which
are the aims of the publication?
Which
is the nature of articles?
....
and the periodicity?
How
to publish an article?

Who
makes Surya?
Surya
magazine is published by Centro
de Artes Orientais
(Center of Eastern Arts) an association without lucrative ends dedicated
to the study and spreading of the Traditional Arts of Eastern Origin.
CAO
was created in the 4th
of March, 1995, by a group of black belts of Associação
Shotokai de Portugal
(Portuguese Shotokai Association) aiming to deepen the study of cultural
and artistic background that stays behind the practice of Karate-do.
Complementary the CAO intends to make apparent the link which connects
all Eastern Arts, assuming itself as a reference for the practitioners
of Oriental Arts.
Surya
magazine is a collective generous work integrating a number of
collaborators all around the World matched by one same string of thought
and practice. The responsible for coordination of the publication of
Surya Magazine is Jose Patrão, 3º Dan de Karate-do Shotokai and
Technical Coordinator of Associação
Shotokai de Portugal.
What
means "Surya"?
Surya
means the "Sun", in Sanscryt. Sanscrit is, probably, the
language closer to original root of all Indo-European languages.
Choosing the name " Surya " for its Online magazine CAO
intends to symbolize:
The aims of the
publication coincide with the CAO's aims, already expressed: study and
spreading of the common origins of Eastern Arts. Thus, the publication
will be presented in two sections:
-
Formative:
with articles directed to the practitioners of Eastern Arts,
specially those who already possess some years of experience;
- Informative:
with useful information for all those who want to aprehend better
Eastern Arts' panorama.
Which
is the nature of the articles ?
Although the
articles published for Surya have a vast thematic diversity they will
possess some common and invariable features:
-
they will
be:
-
they will
not be:
- promotional
(valuation of an art towards others)
ThisVolume
0 (zero)
intends to be an example of the type of articles that we would like to
publish.
...and
the periodicity ?
Surya
will be published in a trimestral basis, corresponding each Volume to
one of the four Seasons. For example Volume 0 (zero) was elaborated
between the 21st
of March (Equinox) and the 21st
of June (Solstice), the day it was locked up. From day on Volume 0 was
considered completed. The articles received from that day on will be
reviewed and translated and as soon as they are available in one certain
language they will immediately published (we foresee a maximum of one
month for translation and revison to the remain 4 languages). By the 23rd
of September Volume 1 (one) of Surya Magazine was completed.
Any
instructor, or even a simple practitioner who possesses an effective
experience of some years of practice, will be able to present articles
for publication. Given the aims of Surya CAO will have to proceed to an
analysis of the Curriculum of the author and to a selection of the
articles received. Thus, not all the articles could be published.
To
symbolize the individuality of each collaborator (and its connection to
Surya) each collaborator (representing one determined organization) is
invited to choose one picture of an astronomical entity of the solar
system. To facilitate the choice CAO already proceeded to a selection of
pictures of the following entities (we leave here our gratitude and..
Copyright's note to N.A.S.A.):
-
Comet
Halley
(reserved for themes related to an artistic, non-competitive and
holistic way of understanding the Oriental Arts; the choice of the
comet has to do with the excentric shape of its orbit that, like the
theme of the articles there published, goes out of the current
understanding of Oriental Arts);
- Planet Júpiter
(reserved by Shotokai Karate Budo - Chile to express their points of
vue concerning Karate-do Shotokai)
- Planet Mars
(available; traditionally this planet is associated with the
"martial" perspective)
- Planet Mercury
(reserved by Uni-Yoga to express their points of vue concerning Yoga
and the underlying philosophy and culture)
- Planet Neptuno
(available; traditionally this planet is associated with a
"mistic" perspective;)
- Planet Saturno
(reserved by Scuola Shotokai Italia to express their points of vue
concerning Karate-do Shotokai)
- Planet Urano
(available; traditionally this planet is associated with mutation
and "ever changing" perspective)
- Planet Vénus
(available; traditionally this planet is associated with art)
- Asteroid B612
(reserved for themes concerning the pedagogy and practice of
Oriental Arts by children)
As
a final note we remember that CAO does not have lucrative ends and all
the contributions (under the most diverse forms, namely: nominated
articles, studies, information, photos, etc.), permanent or temporary,
will be given in a gratuitous form. The author will not loose rights of
Copyright. He (or she) will give to CAO the authorization of publication
of the work.
In
order to help us perfect this model, continuously, we need your precious
