Abstract:
Fragmentation amongst Shotokai groups seems
to be a sad constant factor.
During last years the firm belief that some group leaders have showed off -
if not with words at least in facts - to be the only guardian of the truth,
has generated lack of communication amongst Shotokai groups and the
impossibility, in spite of the presence of highly skilled technicians, to
create an international Shotokai association. Many of these leaders have
affirmed that they are interested and willing about this matter ... but with
the tacit condition that this will be possible only if they lead the group.
It is my belief that emphasizing the
technical matters could be a risk and it can not yet form the basis to start
to reconcile Shotokai groups.
In fact in that case I fear that people would start again to highlight in a
critical way the differences and to create expectations about reaching a
position of leadership.
In my humble opinion an international
group, in the present situation, can not and should not be a monolithic
structure lead by an only technical leader but, more realistically, a sort
of confederation in which each group’s individuality and leadership must
be accepted, respected and considered as a stimulus for the common progress.
