What's ASP?

ASP through its co-founder and most ancient practitioner - Mário Rebola - represents Nihon Karate-do Shotokai in the Portuguese territory (click here to go to NKS official homepage and confirm the list of representatives in each country); NKS was created in 1935 to gather funds to build the renowned Shotokan, the cradle of Karate in Tokyo and still the headquarters of NKS. There, in 1998, took place the commemoration cerimonies of the:

60th Aniversary of the Shotokan's edification

130th Anniversary of the birth of Gichin Funakoshi O-Sensei;

ASP is a pioneer association:

since its genesis in 1969, when regular Karate-do teaching with japanese masters was first introduced in Portugal by Tetsuji Murakami;

passing through the administrative  decentralization and regionalisation that ASP introduced 17 years ago,

assuming from 1998 to 2000 the responsibility of the Department of Formation of "Federação Nacional de Karate - Portugal" and enabling the certification of more than 500 Karate instructors;

organising, in November of 2003, the First Shotokai International Meeting that gathered for the first time in a sole country representatives of Karate-do Shotokai Associations of Europe and South America;

till nowadays founding the Associação Portuguesa de Agentes de Ensino de Budo; (oraganisation that aims to form Teachers of Traditional non-competitive Martial Arts).

ASP is one of the biggest Karate-do associations in Portugal:

20 instructors who teach regularly in 22 dojo's,

more than 50 black belts,

near 400 pratictioners.
