Mitsugi
Saotome, nasceu em 1937 no Japão.
Começou
a sua prática de Aikido aproximadamente em 1955 em Tóquio. Entrou no
Aikikai Hombu Dojo como Uchideshi em 1960 e permaneceu como instrutor até
partir para os EUA em 1975.
Quando o questionaram porque
tinha tomado a decisão de abandonar uma posição altamente
respeitada como instrutor sénior na Sede Mundial do Aikido, em
Tóquio para ir ensinar nos EUA respondeu, 'eu meditei no espírito de O
Sensei por três dias e três noites e senti que era seu desejo que eu
partisse. Este país é uma grande experiência , um cadinho de povos de
diferentes bases culturais vivendo juntos, é o mundo condensado numa
nação. O objetivo do Aikido e o sonho de O Sensei era que todos os povos
do mundo vivessem juntos como uma família, em harmonia entre si e com o
ambiente. Os EUA têm a oportunidade de se tornar um grande exemplo."
A sua
organização chamada Aikido Schools of Ueshiba
foi estabelecida nos no final dos anos 70 e inclui mais de 40 dojo’s.
Esta organização funcionou de forma independente até Janeiro de
1988, quando foi reconhecida pelo Aikikai Hombu.
A
organização de Saotome Sensei funciona de forma independente da
Federação de Aikido dos EUA, mas as graduações concedidas pelas duas
organizações são considerados equivalentes e permutáveis.
Saotome escreveu dois livros sobre Aikido (Aikido and the
Harmony of Nature e The Principles of Aikido).
Saotome
viaja bastante pelos EUA e faz também viagens regulares a França. |
 
Mitsugi
Saotome,
was born in 1937 in Japan.
He
began is practice of Aikido c. 1955 in a Tokyo branch dojo. He
entered the Aikikai Hombu Dojo as an Uchideshi c. 1960 and remained as an
instructor until departing for the U.S. in 1975.
When asked why did he decided to leave such a
highly respected position as a senior instructor at the World Aikido
Headquarters in Tokyo to go to the United States he replied, 'I meditated on
O Sensei's spirit for three days and three nights and I felt it was his wish
that I should go. This country is a great experiment, a melting pot of
people from many different cultural backgrounds living together, the world
condensed into one nation. The goal of Aikido and O Sensei's dream is that
all the peoples of the world live together as one family, in harmony with
each other and with their environment. The United States has the opportunity
to set a great example."
His
organization called Aikido Schools of Ueshiba was established in the late
1970s and includes more than 40 dojos. lt operated on an independent basis
until January 1988 when it was recognized by the Aikikai Hombu.
Saotome
Sensei's organization functions independently of the United States Aikido
Federation, but the ranks given by the two groups are considered to be
equivalent and inter-changeable. Saotome has written
two books on aikido (Aikido and the Harmony of Nature and The
Principles of Aikido)
He travels extensively
in the U.S. and he also makes regular trips to France. |
